This Web site is designed to provide information to residents and visitors about the drinking water on South Bass Island.  Information on the 2004 gastrointestinal illness outbreak and background on South Bass Island is available for review.

There are no travel restrictions to South Bass Island.  South Bass Island is one of Ohio's top tourist destinations featuring stunning views of all Lake Erie islands, outdoor activities, restaurants and family entertainment.

The status of businesses formerly regulated as public water systems by Ohio EPA is as follows:

  • Clintster's is presently closed, and probably not opening this season.  No plans for addressing the contamination have been pursued.

  • ODNR Oak Point Picnic Area has disconnected plumbing from the well and is no longer providing water.

  • Saunder's Resort and Victory Park Resort are no longer public water systems under the regulatory authority of Ohio EPA, as they do not serve enough people, but continue to be open to the public.  Contact the Ottawa County Health Department (OCHD) at 1-800-788-8803 for more information.
