Ohio's Ground Water Quality
Characterization Program:
Volatile Organic Compound Analyses

The Public Water System (PWS) compliance data (treated water) and the Ambient Ground Water Monitoring Program (AGWMP) data (untreated, or 'raw' water) are used to identify wells in Ohio that have been impacted by Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). There are approximately 200 AGWMP wells and ~2,000 Community and Non-Transient Non-Community PWSs in Ohio that regularly sample for VOCs.

An “impact” was determined by utilizing the process outlined in Ohio's Source Water Assessment and Protection (SWAP) Program Ground Water Susceptibility Analysis Process Manual (2003). A well is considered to be impacted by VOCs if the data indicates at least two confirmed results of the same or related compound. The detections do not have to be consecutive hits.
